Terminal Venting Awareness:Copeland compressor 600 Series
The main purpose of this blog is to bring awareness of the potential dangers of terminal venting and terminal venting with ignition to the men and women who service, repair or replace air conditioning
and refrigeration compressors.
Think about this. You have a product that has 120v, 240v, 460v or higher going into a sealed can that must co-exist with a highly flammable oil and very high pressures of refrigerant as well. Now think about that, what could possibly go wrong? It would be like putting a lit match in a half full can of gasoline with the lit match at the top and the gasoline at the bottom and hoping that all goes well ALL the time. You get my point. Now there are many things in your home or business that have electrical power going to them but how many also have highly flammable materials and are full of some sort of high pressure gas? So you have to approach these compressors like you would a bomb, weather it has power off or on make sure it’s cooled before getting close to the terminal area.
Copeland /Emerson has known about this issue for about 20 yrs. Are you aware of Copeland's 500 series compressor? What about the 600 series and now there is a 700 series? Each higher series was, you guessed it, all in an attempt to solve this terminal venting issue. If you have never heard of these different compressor series, why not? if you want to know what those differences are please read the accompanying documents on this blog.
These manufacturers have done a great job at making those in the industry believe that when this happens that it’s just one of those things or it was something they did or didn’t do. Remember you did not design the compressor, they did.
You see the picture of broken cover on this blog? It is from an actual compressor and in a terminal venting situation that cover would not have protected anyone. It was in place but as you can see with that tab broken it just slips off easily. With millions of these compressors still in use, how many of them have missing or broken covers?
I have talk to a lot of people who have been injured by terminal venting, have come close or know of someone who has. Some of these injuries are minor and some more serious that have left the victims clinging to life and with life altering disfigurements.
This blog has received thousands of views from all around the world since starting just a short time ago. This issue may not mean much to you until it happens to someone you love or know. The pictures I have of the burns caused by terminal venting of these compressors are too graphic to show at this time but may be shared at a later date.
To sum this up. You can’t trust these companies to have your best interest at heart since they are only concerned about their bottom line.
Always remember to stay safe!!!!
